ARTIST STATEMENT
The Circle
In my work, I often unite
objects from the natural environment with symbolism, imagery and
text from past and present cultures. I apply layers of paint, which
in turn
Is etched, scratched and subtracted to convey depth and to conjure
memories. Pattern, color, composition and form are all essential
components, which shape the dynamic of the piece. The images in
my work evolve from an observation of our natural world, our social
world and our private world. Interwoven, these elements convey a
multi-layered content partnered on a scarred yet sensuous surface.
I paint, draw and etch both abstracted and figurative elements onto
my panels. I combine techniques and materials which include: acrylic
and oil paint, photographs, sheetrock, objects from nature, glass,
gold and silver leaf. My work evolves spontaneously. Inspiration
and experimentation are continuously employed throughout the process.
Transitions parallel movement and time.
My paintings suggest a belief in the interconnection between all
living things. I envision my work to communicate the paradox, the
beauty and the mystery of life in its many layered complexities,
as well as in its most humble simplicity. Taken for granted is the
enormity of a single moment, a funny gesture or a sad thought, the
grandiosity of a single leaf, the fragile quality of a relationship.
My work juxtaposes these issues, the exploration and reflections
of duality; the shift, fluxuation and the balance of never ending
cycles.
