these paintings, Susan Hall is exploring contrasts. The figure,
lit as if onstage, demands attention yet is also obscured by a curtain
of lace. The pattern embedded in the painting interrupts the illusion
of depth established by the figure. This series examines the tension
between the need for private reflection and the desire for acceptance
and affirmation. |
