Duy
Huynh is an exciting young artist whose poetic and contemplative
acrylic paintings symbolically reflect the experience of geographic
and cultural displacement. Mr. Huynh’s
subject matter is the human condition. In his paintings, human figures
maintain a serene, precarious balance in a surreal, unlocateable
setting: often, female figures are portrayed suspended in mid-air;
jugglers and tight-rope walkers do balancing acts. Images that recur
in Mr. Huynh’s work, such as suitcases, books, butterflies,
and birds, all relate to travel, whether physical or spiritual.
The muted colors and simplified forms in his work contribute to
a sense of calm in the face of dislocation in all its forms. Mr.
Huynh resides in Charlotte, NC. |
