Dan Addington

Dan Addington creates beautiful and haunting mixed-media works that incorporate symbols and religious icons to evoke a meditational response from the viewer. Addington uses deep, tablet-like wood constructions for his work that function as both sculpture and painting. Images such as celtic crosses, angels, and birds are rendered in tar over a beeswax and oil surface, creating densely
textured pieces that recall the sculptural elements of ancient architecture and even memorial markers in their form as well as their content. The inspiration for much of the imagery
in his work comes from his experiences traveling in Ireland, which deeply affected him, combined with his long-standing fascination with medieval and gothic forms, historical European religious subject matter, and Irish history.
He continues to develop these interests in his new body of work. With its iconic imagery and sense of the past, Addington’s work explores the nature of mortality, expresses a sense of loss, and addresses mankind’s desire to locate spiritual meaning.
