Gerard
Erley is a landscape painter who brings an emotional response to
nature into his work. Erley’s oil paintings of the landscape
at first seem purely representational, but as one looks at them
more closely, they cross over into a depiction of emotion that can
only be felt through the subjective experience of a place. Erley
uses lush color in particular to suggest a mood. He says of his
work, “I seek to discover the poetry in a solitary tree or
a passing cloud and to communicate that poetry in paint.”
