Richard
Painter
sees his work as a chronicle of his encounter with life—an
attempt at recording what he sees and experiences. The most abiding
theme in hiswork is the fragility and tenacity of life. This main
theme sets the stage for many diverse areas of interest, which is
evident in the choices of imagery in the overall body of work. Fragility
is represented by birds, moths, a leaf or a child’s toy. To
comment on and heighten the vulnerable nature of their existence,
these objects are surrounded by aggressively burned visual fields
and thus represent both the vulnerable fragility and the profound
tenacity of life. Each work thus represents a view of the field
of action in which life takes place. It is the present moment we
are all moving through and need to be lovingly aware of. |
